September 2022: Daniel Drayss, PhD candidate at IPQ, won the ADVA Best Student Paper Award at the 48th European Conference on Optical Communication in September 2022 in Basel, Switzerland. In his paper “Slice-Less Optical Arbitrary Waveform Measurement (OAWM) on a Silicon Photonic Chip”, he presented the first slice-less optical-arbitrary-waveform-measurement (OAWM) front-end integrated on a silicon photonic chip. He further demonstrated its viability by reception of high-speed data signals. The concept exploits time-interleaved optical frequency combs and can be scaled up to measure optical waveforms with bandwidths of up to several hundred gigahertz.
