Girls' Day at the KIT

On Girls' Day (27.04.2023), we welcomed a group of 9^th grade students at the IPQ for a day of exciting activities. We launched the event with an introduction and demonstration of optical fibers, as well as an explanation of how high-speed data communication is possible. This was followed by a lab tour showing casing the fabrication and characterization of a few of the photonic chips being used at the IPQ. After a lunch break together we continued with the workshop, where the students built their own colorful fiber optic lamps using 3D-printed materials, LEDs and optical fibers as seen in the picture. Finally, the students were able to take their beautiful lamps home along with some 3D-printed lamp decorations.
