ERC Synergy Grant Award
November 2024: The IPQ is proud to have received one of the highly competitive ERC Synergy grants with the title „Active Hybrid Photonic Integrated Circuits for Ultra-Efficient Electro-Optic Conversion and Signal Processing” (ATHENS). We thank the European Research Council (ERC) for their trust in us and greatly appreciate the cooperation.
ATHENS aims to address the technological challenges of energy-efficient, broadband, and scalable electro-optic conversion. By establishing a new class of photonic integrated circuit (PIC) systems, ATHENS will push the boundaries of electro-optic conversion performance to its theoretical limits. This will be achieved through the development of advanced modulator technologies and pioneering strategies for high-fidelity on-chip optical amplification, leading to unprecedented system efficiency and capability. With the rapid surge in demand for high-performance data transmission driven by AI and machine learning applications, this project is critical in ensuring that future communication systems can meet the growing need for speed, energy efficiency, and scalability.
